Janus is Dead

Postby QuantumHyena » Mon Jul 23, 2012 1:23 pm

After being missing for weeks, Janus has now been declared dead. Last seen departing for Canada, there was speculation over his involvement in an explosion afterwards on the same day which killed a human assassin and scattered remains of a then-unidentified robot. Retrieval and analysis of these remains by Dopplertown agents were carried out and a recent report confirmed that, "The remains found at the site of the explosion matched Janus' body prior to leaving Dopplertown." Janus' cause of death is mentioned as either direct physical injury or voluntary self-destruction after encountering the assassin. Whether he was equipped with any intentional explosives or "dead-man switch" is unknown, but descriptions of the blast force and interviews with those who knew Janus suggest this may have been the case.

Known as the founder of Aeternitas, a semi-independent recruiting and terrorist organization which maintains close ties to Dopplertown, Janus' history prior to this is poorly known and no one who could be reached for comment was able to provide any deep insight. What has been confirmed is that, prior to taking the name Janus, and afterwards during his many trips around the world expanding and managing Aeternitas, he operated under a number of different identities both human and reploid. This habit, which Janus defended as a necessary precaution, has nonetheless made tracing his history difficult. Mani, his only known identity prior to Janus, was active for about one and a half years across Europe and Scandinavia, culminating in the bombing of an office building in which he was captured on camera and that likely caused the adoption of his best-known identity.

*A picture is provided both of the building mostly leveled following the explosions and a grainy image zoomed in from a distance on a blonde haired, blue eyed, fair skinned, and apparently human male. A caption below indicates this as "Mani"*

Although his personal body count is speculated at anywhere from hundreds to tens of thousands of human lives (depending largely on large-scale attacks such as the above), Janus' indirect contribution to the war effort includes thousands of confirmed human deaths and hundreds of recruited mavericks. Within Aeternitas, Janus is survived by his two seconds in command, Limentinus, and Forculus. In the wake of his death, Limentinus and Forculus were reached for comment and have said that an official statement has already been issued within the organization to address the necessary change in leadership as well as proper funeral respects. Limentinus has announced that he will be taking over the role of his former superior with Forculus supporting the decision and stating that despite the loss of its founder and leading member, Aeternitas will continue its operations uninterrupted, including its commitments to Dopplertown.

While both reploids expressed remorse at the loss of their leader, who according to Limentinus recruited them both personally, Forculus mentioned that the change of leadership will have a positive impact and may have been overdue despite the tragic circumstance. "Despite his crucial leadership in the early years of our organization," Forculus said, "Janus had in recent months become increasingly paranoid and irrational, possibly caused by an uncorrected defect in his design interacting with the maverick virus." Following this statement, medical records were found which confirmed that Janus was in fact a viral maverick, although not until after becoming a Dopplertown citizen, and that up to the point of his last examination in March of 2011, no adverse symptoms were found. The date of Janus' last examination coincides roughly with what seems to have been a gradual shrinking of his inner circle as Janus' public appearances became fewer and his communications more often delivered through Limentinus and Forculus. One member of Aeternitas however, who stated she had been promoted in person to a regional command post within a month of Janus' death, said that despite Forculus' opinion she didn't see any changes in Janus which would support the idea he was unstable. However, she admitted, their encounter was brief and professional.
